There isn’t much that can be said after a loss like that. People will find all different reasons or excuses for the Capitals to lose to the Canadiens, but it the end none of them matter. The only thing that is important is that Montreal moves on and Washington doesn’t.

Hopefully this will serve as a lesson to some of the players, you can’t just win because you have a better team, and if they had tried hard, like the last 2 games, from the start, they would’ve won, but instead they figured it would be easy and were concentrating on the next rounds.

I can honestly say after watching all the games, other than game 2 when Mike played a horrible game, that he played really good the rest of the time, and can go even as far as saying he played amazing in the last two games, but it wasn’t enough.

Not that it’s important right now, but Mike played over 26 and a half minutes in the final game, was an even in the plus/minus department, had 4 shots and 4 penalty minutes.

Every single series the Caps have played in since the lock out has gone to 7 games, meaning every single playoff series that Alex Ovechkin, Mike Green, Nicklas Backstrom, and many others have participated in have gone to 7 games, unfortunately they have lost 2 of them and only won one of them.

I think that it’s clear that Washington is the better team, but in the NHL you don’t just get a free pass because you are good, you need to want to win.

Yes Halak is the main reason that the Canadiens won Game 6, but that is no excuse, there wasn’t nearly enough traffic in front of the net, they need to play like they did when they came back in game number 2, that’s how you win playoff hockey games.

A great example of that is Mike Green, he played hard in game 6, and did some nice moves to create some shots on net, but there was nobody in front to screen or tip the shot until Mike’s final shot that was deflected in by Fehr for the Caps lone goal of the game.

Mike got the assist on that goal, he was an even plus/minus and got 6 shots in almost 27 minutes of ice time, which is quite a bit considering he has 4 penalty minutes.

Mike hasn’t scored a goal yet in the first 5 games, and we can see, specially in Game 4 that he’s is trying and the rest of the Caps were trying to set him up a lot to get out of his slump.

The good news is, even though he hasn’t produced offensively to the level we are used to, he has stepped up his defensive game in the past 3 games compared to the first two games of the series.

I haven’t been able to post daily like I usually do, but I have been following all the games and news.

So far Mike has 2 points in 5 games, and is a plus 1. He has averaged 25 minutes and 34 seconds of ice time a game.

I’m going to predict a 5-3 win by the Caps tonight in Montreal with Mike scoring the first and fourth (game winning) goals, as well as an assist.

Sorry for being away for the past few days, but I’m back now, and I’m happy to say the series has swung in the expected direction. The Capitals won the Saturday and Monday night games.

Obviously the way Mike Green played on Saturday was horrible, and nobody knows it more than him, and the difference was seen on Monday.

I can only assume it will be even better tonight.

If we remember last year in the first round the Capitals were down 3-1 in the series before they decided to start playing, yesterday was a bit of the same, although they came out strong and Halak had to be sharp early, after that it looked like they were bored and didn’t think they needed to backcheck and play a full game.

Hopefully they figure it out before tomorrow to get back on track and not go to 7 games again.

Mike played over 28 and a half minutes, was minus 1 with 2 shots and one minor penalty for delay of game due to shooting the puck directly over the glass.

Mike made another strong push towards the Norris and showed off his defensive capabilities with a nice blocked shot, which I have to say causes some worry because he probably has a bruise now, hopefully it will heal 100% by Thursday.

Washington beat the Thrashers to complete the 6 game sweep on the season. This game started with Bill Daly handing out the President’s Trophy to the team and finished with a bunch of milestones.

Ovechkin got his 50th goal, Green his 75th point and Backstrom his 100th of the season.

Funny enough the 50th goal and 100th point were on the same play so there may be a fight over who gets to keep the puck, Ovi was quoted as saying they would split it, whatever that means.

Green was plus 2 with 3 shots and 1 assist in exactly 25 minutes of ice time.

Washington won 6-3 yesterday to give the caps four wins against Pittsburgh this season. Ovechkin had 2 goals and Crosby had 1 goal and 1 assist, they are both tied at 48 goals to lead the NHL.

Again Mike didn’t play, official word is a healthy scratch to get some rest, but there are rumors saying that he has minor bruises to heal, some saying he has the flu, no matter what the truth is lets hope he’s back 100% for next game or worst case for the playoffs.

Last time it was due to injury, this time was to rest him for the game tonight in Pittsburgh and for the playoffs.

It took overtime but the Capitals were able to beat the bruins for the third straight time this season. Theodore was solid stopping 28 of 30 shots and Ovechkin got 2 assists with 6 shots on net.

Sorry I’m a little late on this update, I was away for the weekend, if you don’t already know the Capitals won on Saturday 3-2 against the Blue Jackets.

Mike had the game winning goal, and 4 shots in over 24 minutes of ice time. That goal put him at a new career high with 74 points, beating the 73 from last year.
