Mike Green leaves game in second period, Caps streak over!

Mike Green left the game after only 2 shits in the second period with “groin tightness” according to Coach Hunter. The Capitals lost 5-2 ending their 4 game winning streak but continuing their losing streak in San Jose, they haven’t won a game there since 1993!

The Capitals opted to dress only 6 defensemen which was a good sign showing that Green was back for real and could be counted on, but after only 5 minutes of ice time in the first period, I started to wonder if they were being cautious or if Hunter perferred to play the other guys, but then after 2 shifts in the second, it was done, only 7:11 if ice time for Mike Green and he didn’t step foot on the ice again.

Voukoun let it 4 goals on 38 shots which isn’t horrible but also isn’t what is expected of him, and while we are on the subject of expectations, Ovechkin was a minus 3 in the game.

Hopefully this is just a bump in the road, after all San Jose is one of the toughest teams in the league to beat at home.

Here are the highlights including Denis Wideman and Joel Ward’s goals.
