This is the fourth meeting between the divisional rivals, and the Caps have won the first three games by a combined score of 11 to 5. Mike Green scored his only game winning goal of the season in OT against Carolina back on October 8th when Washington won 4-3.
Mike Green is on the long term injury reserve, and his nick name is Game Over, because of the amount of game winning goals he got in one season, well yesterday the Capitals won 2-1 and Dmitry Orlov got his first career NHL goal and it was the game winner.
As usual the Capitals gave the first goal to the opposition, but then answered back with 5 goals in a 5-1 victory over Carolina.
Mike Green will miss tonight’s game against the Hurricanes due to his ankle injury not being completely gone. He is doubtful for tomorrows game against the Islanders as well.
It wasn’t the prettiest game, but it had an amazing ending with Mike Green scoring the game winning goal in overtime on his only shot of the game.
Mike Green was placed on the long term injury reserve as of Wednesday which means he can’t come back until at least March 22nd. The Capitals are looking to continue their dominance of the Hurricanes tonight.
It still shows that Green isn’t fully recovered, and that maybe it was a little worse than a stinger, however unlike last game where he only had 5 minutes of ice time, Mike played over 13 minutes this time.
You should never assume anything, but I’ll step out on a ledge an guess, barring injury, Mike will be on the Eastern conference team for the 2011 NHL All-Star game in Carolina. As you can see above the Hurricanes released the logo for the game. Read more about the logo at NHL.com.
