Yesterday, the Washington Capitals placed Mike Green on the long term injury reserve, meaning he will miss a minimum 24 days or 10 games. That means Green won’t be allowed to return to the line up until February 1st when the Capitals are in Florida.
The injured Washington Capitals beat the injured Pittsburgh Penguins last night 1-0. There is still no news on Mike Green’s status and Alex Ovechkin is named to the NHL All-Star game for a fifth time.
Mike Green didn’t skate this morning, which likely means he won’t play tonight, but still no official word on his status for tonight or in general. The Capitals are hosting the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight, and the game will be nationally televised in both Canada and the US, on TSN2 and NBC Sports respectively.
It’s not really surprising that two players which are “day-to-day” won’t be in the line up tonight, Mike Green and Nicklas Backstrom. Both may skate at the optional skate tomorrow, but either way it means nothing, they are both day-to-day and that mean absolutely nothing when coming from the Caps…
Finally after more than a month we get a real update about Mike Green’s injury, instead of just hearsay and rumors. The news comes from Washington Capitals general manager George McPhee.
The Washington Capitals play their first game of a 2 game road trip tonight in Florida, Mike Green will not play tonight against the Panthers. Florida is in first place in the Southeast Division, 5 points ahead of the Caps.
I wasn’t able to update over the weekend, but needless to say after two sad games (6-3 Loss to New York and 5-1 Loss to Buffalo, a team which is missing 9 regulars including their star goalie) the end of the line had arrived for Coach Boudreau.
I don’t know when day to day became week to week, but as you can see in the video below of Coach Boudreau speaking on the different players updates, says that they hope Mike Green is “skating” by the end of this week.
The Washington Capitals are 3-6-1 in their last 10, and the Maple Leafs are just a bit better at 4-5-1. The Caps will again be without Mike Green for tonights game due to his groin injury.
